I need some friendship advice- specifically whether or not I overreacted about something?
Okay, so, there was a guy in some of me and my friend's classes last year. He said very sexist and awful things. For example, when he said women should have fewer rights than men. That's far from the worst of it, too. And he said these things many times. My friend recently told me that they were friend's now. I got upset and explained the things he had done, even though she knew already. She said it was fine and just a mistake of his because his parents were divorced and it was hard (what??). I tried explaining a hard life doesn't make you sexist. We argued some. Then, school ended. When I got home I made some long, angry texts, cursing and very mad because she was defending a sexist, and also didn't think the sexist things he said were bad. I said we were no longer friends. (Note: she also did some sh*tty stuff before, like not being there for me when I needed her but always venting to me, and having me to be there for her. Or brushing off my problems because hers were worse. Generally just not being a good friend.) Did I overreact? She was very upset with me and I'm not sure if I should have ended our friendship without talking about it more. We were friends for a year and were close. I keep second guessing myself, so I really want some other people's opinions so I can know if I overreacted. Did I?
