Christianity was the dominant religion in Europe during the middle ages, but was certainly not the only religion practiced in Europe, nor was Christianity a homogeneous body during the period. Christianity divided into the Western and Eastern Churches in the schism of 1054. There were also Muslims, Jews, and Pagans in Europe during the middle ages. Muslims had conquered the Iberian peninsula during the early 8th century and were not fully expelled by Christians until the end of the 15th century. Parts of Northern and Eastern Europe remained pagan until the 13th century. There were Jewish populations at various locations all throughout the middle ages as well, although they were always minority groups living within other societies.
During WW2, there were many classes. The primary early classes were the YORKTOWN class, containing the USS Enterprise, USS Yorktown, and the USS Hornet. The Saratoga and Lexington were the only two carriers of their class, and they were the largest US carriers of the war, until the ESSEX class came on line. Then there were the Light Carriers classes, and the Escort Carrier classes. Totally more than 50 aircraft carriers during WW2.
The Protestants left the Roman Catholic Church after the Middle Ages ended, during the Renaissance.
The effect was biggest in the ancient Inca and Mayan societies and cultures that were annihilated in a relatively short period of time. The effect on East Indian cultures was limited and would remain so for another couple of centuries. African societies would remain undisturbed until the late 19th century. That even goes for slavery, which in African societies itself was widespread, with often 20-30 percent of a society's population consisting of slaves to African masters.

From about 1800 until the mid-1900s, Great Britain was sort of the center of the political world. Societies and nations were described by their directions from Britain. So Egypt, Iran, Israel, Lebanon and the Arab societies were the "middle east", while China and Japan were the "far east". By this measurement, all of Asia is "Eastern" in culture and orientation.
