How to Care for a Down Comforter?
A down comforter looks soft and inviting and is a luxurious addition to any bedding. But down comforters also require special maintenance to keep them looking clean, new and soft. The upkeep isn’t hard, but it is important. Here are some of the things needed to keep your comforter looking new. Always keep a cover on your comforter. This protects it from dirt, debris and body oils. This also allows you to wash the cover without washing the actual comforter. Down comforters cannot be washed in a regular washer and dryer, so keeping it covered is vital. It is not recommended to wash your comforter yourself. You should fluff up your comforter each day, and air it out occasionally. To air it out, simply hang it on a clothes line on a sunny day, or shake it out while outside. This keeps the comforter looking and smelling fresh. If you do this on a regular basis, it should maintain its fluffiness. Because the comforter can’t be washed regularly, you will want to have it dry cleaned every few years. Having it cleaned every three to five years or so should be sufficient. This will keep it clean but also minimize the amount of chemicals and cleaners used on your comforter. Frequent washing can damage the comforter, and it also causes the comforter to shrink slightly. To keep the comforter fluffy, it’s best to keep from sitting or lying on top of it. The down, when repeatedly crushed can get worn down and break, which means your comforter will no longer be fluffy. Use the comforter only as a top layer and not something to lie on. Should you ever need to store your comforter, place it in a well-ventilated and dry area. This helps prevent mildew. You should also bring the blanket out of storage now and again to air it out and ensure that it is dry and safe. A down comforter is a great cover for any bed. They are warm and comforting as well as luxurious. As long as you care for the comforter and keep it clean, you should be able to enjoy your comforter for many years.
