I am replacing the fuel pump on a Chrysler fifth ave on the side of the engine not the gas tank is there a push rod inside the engine that i have to hold so that it won't drop into the engine?

To hold it in place give in a touch of (clean) grease. The grease will usually hold it long enough for you to mount you fuel pump.
