Who cares if you were bad in grade school - that's not who you are today. You need to live for the future, not relive the past. Everybody has some history, good or bad, so you aren't alone. Just try and start over, be a new you, a better you, the best you YOU could possibly be. Befriend this guy and if things work out, you might have a better relationship than you have hoped for.
