To see the screen or game you are using.
You see much more on full screen than the game windowed.But sometimes i have my game windowed so i can listen to music off youtube. :D
The title screen is what you see right after the companies in the beggiing. For example, it will say "NINTENDO". The title screen has the game's logo, copyright information, etc.
in the bottom screen when you play the game there are all of your dogs/cats in squares, when you press one of them there is a little note sign in the upper right corner that shows up, just click it and then you will see tricks on the lower left of the screen
This has happened to me before. Try checking the settings and the wires, or phone the company the system was made by, or check their website.
While playing a game type, look at the bottom of the screen and you will see a yellow bar, that is your XP. Also after the game press "Y" and you can see your XP.
If you turn on an N64 without a game inside you will only get a black screen. Once a game is inside when the game loads a flash can be seen on the screen and you will see the game startup screen.
