You actually do have your star! All you need to do is make your active sim different then the one who is famous. You don't have the star above your head because you have the green (or what ever color it is at the moment) sim diamond above you. This lets you know you are controlling that sim. If you only have one sim in the household then you have to check a different way. Go into a different house you have set up and call the famous sim over and you will see your star! Your game does not have an error!
You need to have 5 star famous-ness, but, If you have then theres an error on your game.
