transmission control module (TCM). it can make the solenoid pack inside the transmission stop working(it can burn out the solenoids) if it got messed up. i had this problem with my sebring. i replaced the transmission 4 times, paid 2 times... found out later on my own that i shorted out my TCM and that was the cause.

Will your transmission filter make your transmission slip?

no. the only purpose of the filter is to filter. it should be replaced about every 20k miles. I suppose if you havent replaced it, and its completely full, it is allowing debris to pass through and get stuck in the solenoids or valve body.
