I have a 1998 BMW Z3 and my air conditioner is blowing hot air. I did a leak check and found no leaks. The air compressor starts to cycle but stops. What could be the problem?

Run your engine with the A/C on and watch the end of the compressor where the belt is. If it kicks on you will see the it start turning. if it doesn't turn and never starts turning you may need your A/C charged with freon. If the belt smokes you compressor may be locked up.

IF THREE PHASE, IT IS POSSIBLE TO REVERSE MOTOR DIRECTION IN AN ATTEMPT TO FREE UP A FROZEN COMPRESSOR (RECIP ONLY, NOT FOR SCROLL IN THAT THEY ARE ROTATION SPECIFIC). ONCE YOU GET IT GOING OR HAVE COMPRESSOR REPLACED, FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED FAILURE AND FIX IT. IT WILL JUST HAPPEN AGAIN IF YOU DON'T. THEY DON'T JUST WEAR OUT IF MAINTAINED PROPERLY. lc
