I often get stumped with an opening paragraph, so I understand a bit of what you are going through.
What I have done to rectify this "opening paragraph block," is to skip that, and go onto the body of the paper I am writing. Oftentimes after having written what I wanted to say, I can figure out how to "introduce" what I am going to say--the opening paragraph.
I was thrown a bit, by the requirement that you mentioned: "briefly describe this 'task'." The usage of "task" had me stumped, but then I realized that with artwork, the "task" would either be how it was made (by the artist), or easier--describe the piece of artwork.
I hope that this might get you started on your essay.
