The original Microsoft versions flopped so it gave everyone a negative connotation for Adobe Windows based programs that kind of has remained to this day
The Microsoft versions tend to just be outdated versions of Mac programs. I know when Illustrator 4.0 came out for Microsoft it was incredibly similar to Mac's 1.1 version so it has a bad rap from that.
For adobe programs - Mac seems to be the winner and if you have a Windows based then Corel programs are more popular.
