Over direct the hair to the desired side with a blow dryer when it's damp. Do this each time after shampooing and eventually you will "train" the hair to part on the opposite side.

What unit would you use to measure the thickness of a hair?

Units aren't used to measure anything. After you complete the measurement, using equipment suited to the purpose, you use units to describe the result of your measurement, and to tell other people about it. I would measure the thickness of a hair using a micrometer, and express the result in millimeters.

My hair is 10 inches long. how long will it take to grow another 6 inches?

Hi if you hair is 10 inches and you are looking for another 6 inches it would take you exactly one year to grow six inches of hair. The average length a person hair grows is an 1/2 inch per month. If you can prevent you hair from breaking you will see the best results. One way to keep hair from breaking is deep condition you hair at least once a week and use products with grow oils in them like rosemary, jojoba oil, coconut etc. Keep in mind that every one sheds hairs but they are usually replaced with new hairs. Keep you hair in protecting styles at least 90% of the time and avoid heat products on your hair. This will help keep you hair from drying out and becoming damaged. What are good hair styles for thin long hair?

My hair is down to the middle of my back and because of a medical condition, has always been extremely thin. I've found the best way to wear my hair is layered (to add depth) and parted to the side with long bangs. Sounds 'emo', but it helps that really noticeable spot right in the front because when people look at you head on, it's almost as visible as a runway. But yes: Long and layered, swoopy bangs, parted to the side is my vote.
