World of Warcraft is definitely more cartoony. Lord of the Rings Online follows "lore" which is very heavily set down by multiple books actually written. Lord of the Rings is far older than Lord of the Rings (by 50+ years). The population of LotRO players is definitely going to be more laid back and serious than World of Warcraft.
It's definitely up to you to decide. Write down some features from both games and compare the two.

WC3 stands for Warcraft 3. It's a great game and you should try it but if you do get the expansion pack. You can go online and play against other people around the world, make your own maps in the world editor and more! Way better than world of warcraft, cuz theres no monthly cost. you just buy the program and install, and no more costs.
