I plugged an HDMI cable into my ps3 and the screen went blank i have tried unplugging the HDMI cable and restarting the system but it hasn't worked what can i do?

It could possibly be because you have it on the wrong channel once it goes blank. That was the problem I had with it anyway. If you were using a normal cable before you will need to remove it, then reset your ps3.
