Simply try to meet him 1 on 1. If he is smart, then you can ask for tutoring. If you are in a similar activity, try to talk to him at some point there. If you have similarities, try to talk about them when you first meet. If you walk up to him and talk (just some time-if you wind up finding him doing something with friends, it can wind up bad) Its worth it just to talk, and just enjoy time more with each other.
