I started taking the pill at the begining of my period as directed and my period continued on and off longer than usual instead of stopping after the second tablet. does this mean the pill isnt workin?

This is normal. The pill will not begin working until you have been on it for 4 weeks. After this time you can have unprotected intercourse.
