The biggest problem with palm spikes is the risk of infection, there are no real toxins related to this that I'm aware of. I have to say that unless you were having an allergic reaction (of which you aren't describing), the sore throat was not related. Be sure to make sure the finger is kept clean and dry and if there are sign's of infection get it looked at ASAP. If you haven't had a tetanus shot in the last 5 years get with your doctor to get that taken care of.
