I was riding a horse we were trotting around and then it just fell down It was as if she forgot about her front legs. What can cause a horse to do this Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

This could be caused from the horse becoming distracted and missing a low or high spot and she tripped and fell. It could also be something far more serious and need medical treatment. The best thing to do is have a equine veterinarian come out and do a full workup on the horse, including a neurological test. Once you have a better idea of what caused it you can outline a plan for it.
If it's medical the vet will tell you how to treat it.
If it was from lack of attention on the horses part, then you have to work with the horse on paying better attention. This can be done with lots of upward and downward transitions and change of directions.
