It was off Park Ave on 58th St.(?) It had a pool room, dance floor with jukebox, kitchen and lunch room type of area. It was run by the Archdiocese of New York for servicemen in New York. In 1961, a bunch of us girls (18 and 19) volunteered to work for a couple of hours and socialize for the rest of the evening. We had spaghetti feeds and dances. We also planned picnics, bus trips and beach parties. This wasn't exactly hardship volunteering for teenage girls. We had an endless supply of handsome young men, thanks to Uncle Sam and the draft.

The Club was still open when I was attached to the 26th United States Army Band at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, from 1973 to 1975. I remember the spaghetti dinners.

NEW entry

As a USCG sailor I would like to add to the above text. In the last half of 1960 I frequently visited this club. It was always a very welcome place for young service men away from home to go and to find friendly companionship, games, dancing, food, sodas and the ever lovely young ladies. It was all very well chaperoned and the girls knew how to approach a lonely or shy looking soldier and get him engaged in a dance or conversation. They were not allowed to spend more than ten minutes or so with any particular one, but socialized among several during the evening.

I met one of the two most awesome ladies I have ever met in my life there. She and I dated over the next 4-5 years and became very close friends. My life as a seaman at that time kept me away from NYC a lot. I have fond memories of the Cardinal Spellman Serviceman's Club and the wonderful young lady that I met there.

Often as I would be taking leave from my base on Governor's Island, roaming the city with little more that a subway token in my pocket, (a serviceman's pay back then didn't go far) I would drop into the club around 6 pm when supper was served and I don't remember that it was always spaghetti, but that it was quite good. In addition to the pool tables, there was ping pong and it was always busy. The TV room was the smallest room there and was lit only by the TV, but had a glass wall to the rest of the club. The TV room was off limits to the girls, so a guy could get off to himself if so desired. There were lounges all around where visiting took place.

Thank you dear ladies for all the kindness you showed to me and thousands of others during those years. For sure, many, many of us have very pleasant memories of this club and of your selfless contribution.

Who is dorma in Sabina the teenage witch?

Dorma is Sabrina Spellman's Great Aunt and she is literally the black sheep of the Spellman family because she is a black sheep but she also has a bad temper and attitude since she sent Other Realm poppies into the Spellman household which are lethal to Spellman since they would make all Spellman family members fall asleep including Sabrina herself but because she was half mortal the spell was a delayed reaction with her and it just made her sleepy for awhile.
