For bathrooms, the 2 most important aspects of design are, respectively, 1.) lighting and 2.) reflection (mirrors).

Mirrors make the bathroom look much larger and also reflect light. Light is the most important element of bathroom design: it brings out the colors and designs on your walls, it brings out the rich tones of your cabinetry, it makes the room feel more inviting and grander and cleaner. Proper lighting also has practical implications, like allowing you to get a better sense of how white your teeth are, just how much makeup have you really put on, etc. Nighttime lighting is also important: bright white lights are important for nighttime hygiene, but lower-level lighting is better if you're making a late-night trip to the bathroom (no one likes getting blinded!)
