If Emmanuel is Jesus' prophetic name why do most of his followers call themselves Christian?

The term Christian is coined in The Bible itself, and was used originally as a pejorative term. It is similar to the word Yank that was a pejorative British term for the colonists in North America. It has since taken on an entirely different sense.

Jesus has several prophetic names. A fair number can be found in Isaiah 9:6:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV)
In the Gospel according to Matthew (1:23) we're told that "Immanuel" means "God with us". The term Immanuel (or Emmanuel) is found in Isaiah 7:14:
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (KJV)
Messiah, another term applied to Jesus, means "anointed". "Christ" and "Messiah" mean the same thing in different languages.
So, to call oneself a Christian is to accept that Jesus is God's anointed one. And if one accepts that, then one accepts all the other descriptions as well.

Emmanuel means "God with us" in Hebrew. Whereas Christ means "Messiah" in Hebrew. Both are certainly important meanings to those of the faith, but the Emmanuel is more of the "what" and the Christ is more of the "why".
