The world would not end. Halley's comet is fairly big, and moves in from the outer solar system at cometary speeds. Very fast. If it struck the world, it would be catastrophic, likely causing some extinctions. Life would most likely survive, and even humans would most likely survive, though without question millions would die--perhaps billions.
