Ever since Adam and Eve people where born with sin. Jesus died so that we wouldn't be born with sin. He washed away or sins with his blood.

When we say Jesus died, we say that His Body experienced death. Jesus' Spirit is eternal and did not die. Jesus was God before becoming man, and became man to live among us. He was true God and True Man, having both God and Human natures in the one Person of Jesus. Human bodies do not live eternally on the earth, and the only way to Heaven is to die physical death. ALthough Jesus was born with no sin, lived with no sin, but died as the perfect sacrifice for our sin. We are born with orignal sin, which is washed away in Baptism, when we become members of His Church, His Mystical Body. His death on the cross is where our redemption was won. His resurrection and ascension into Heaven allows us to enter Heaven where we will spend eternity with Him. He is the first to do what we will do, to allow us to follow Him from death to resurrection and life in Heaven.
