The Republic of Ireland is often used, but the official name is Éire in the Irish language and Ireland in English. Southern Ireland is an incorrect term. In fact the most northerly point on the island of Ireland, is not in Northern Ireland, but actually in what many people call southern Ireland. So "Southern Ireland" is an incorrect term both as an official name and geographically.

What conrty holds southern Ireland?

Southern Ireland is often used incorrectly to refer to the Republic of Ireland and distinguish it from Northern Ireland, so southern Ireland is really just a geographical term, in the same way as you might have southern Canada or southern France or southern Argentina, or the southern part of any country you could mention. Even the term Republic of Ireland is not an official one. The proper name, according to the Irish constitution is Éire or Ireland. So, southern Ireland is in the country that is known as Ireland, which is on the island of Ireland, as is Northern Ireland.

Are you a immigrant if you come from southern Ireland?

An immigrant is someone coming from a country other than the one that they are now in, usually with a requirement for documentation, like a visa, to enable them access to the country they are now in. In the context of Ireland, someone from the Republic of Ireland (the proper term for what people call southern Ireland) living in Northern Ireland, would not be considered an immigrant. Someone from the Republic of Ireland going to some other countries could be regarded as an immigrant. It depends on where they are going.

Is Belfast a proper capital?

It is the capital of Northern Ireland, but it is not a proper capital in the same way Dublin is. Northern Ireland is not an independent sovereign country like the Republic of Ireland of is, but rather is a constituent county within the United Kingdom. The proper capital of Northern Ireland is therefore London, this is where the main parliament meets.

Which stretches farther south Ireland or Northern Ireland?

The proper term for what people call southern Ireland is the Republic of Ireland. The most southerly point of Ireland is Mizen Head, in Co. Cork which is in the Republic of Ireland. The most northerly point of Ireland is Malin Head, in Co. Donegal, which is also in the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland consists of 6 of Ireland's 32 counties, but neither the most northerly or southerly point of Ireland is in Northern Ireland. The most westerly point is also in the Republic of Ireland, in Co. Kerry, but the most easterly point is in Co. Down in Northern Ireland. See the map below, which shows all the counties of Ireland, with the 6 yellow ones being those in Northern Ireland.

Why is the Northern Ireland flag not part of the Union Jack?

It is part of the Union flag, which is the proper name for the flag, not the Union Jack. It is the red X that is on the flag. The red X on a white background is St. Patrick's Cross, which is used for Northern Ireland. That appears prominently on the Union flag. It is possible you are thinking of another flag, like the Ulster flag, that is not actually the flag for Northern Ireland.
