If a hamster jumps off your lap and squeals and then has trouble walking what should you do besides taking it to the vet?

If you are not going to take the hamster to the vet, I would suggest that you put the hamster back in its cage. If there are no apparent signs of blood, just keep it in cage and keep it warm for the hamster, no drafts. See what it is doing after a couple of days. Sometimes, a little time is all they need to heal. Just watch the hamster. Don't attempt to pick it up for any reason until you see it out an about under its own power in its cage by itself. It is OK to pet it but do not attempt to pick it up.

It would probably be best to not use tissues for the bedding. You should put some tissue for your hamster to use to make a nest, but not really as a bedding. It is not absorbent enough if there is too few and the hamster may have trouble walking around in the cage if there is too much.

I would recommend walking it on grass or sand instead. Make sure you aren't gone for over 15-25 min. Keeping a hamster away from a water source for longer than that can cause dehydration.
