There are several ways horses show boredom. One way is to chew on things. Another is to paw at the floor of their stall or pen. Again another is to chew on themselves. Curbing is another. Grinding the teeth is another.

Horses crib, or chew wood. Horses do NOT like to be shut in a stall all day, so it's actually better if they are outside at all times, with a shelter for them to go under when they want to.

ohh..and they mess girls around because they're evil little poops.

Horses usually lay down, but most of the time they stand when they sleep. Usually young horses lay down because they aren't strong enough to stand long enough to sleep

They 'can' but it's not really good for them. Usually they enjoy sunbathing though and lay down to do so.

Is is dangerous for a horse to lay on its side for a long time?

this depends on what your definition is of a 'long time'. Horses must sleep laying down to get full REM sleep, but this only lasts for a few minutes. Some horses also like to lay on their sides in the sun to rest. However if a horse has been down for an hour or more, or is extremely still while laying down it would be best to check the horse and call a equine veterinarian.
