theory
A question is a question. A hypothesis is a theoretical answer, but one which has not been tested.
Yes and no- they are both ideas. However, a theory has been tested, a hypothesis has not.
A hypothesis is just a (any) guess. To be considered "scientific" it must be testable (against reality). A theory is concept (it was a hypothesis) which HAS been tested and - so far - has not been found wanting (i.e. no errors [yet]).
A hypothesis is a question which has been reworded into a form that can be tested by an experiment. If the hypothesis turns out to not be true, variables can then be change in order to conduct another experiment to see if the hypothesis becomes true with the changes.
If a hypothesis has been tested many times (using approved experimental methods), and each test has proven the hypothesis to be true, the hypothesis can be taken to be a fact, or truth.
Theory
The hypothesis which has been tested and verified repeatedly by tests is called theory.
A scientific theory is a hypothesis that has been repeatedly tested and still seems to be valid. These theories are tested by using the scientific method.
A theory.
