If a leg wound turns black, or any strange color, plee see your doctor immediately.

While it COULD be MRSA, the black color often indicates death of tissue, which is an equally problemic solution.

Remember, when in doubt, please see your physician for your own sake.

=== === The blackness indicates the presence of necrotic tissue. Either way this is serious and, as the prior respondant says, this one needs a doctor. That said, MRSA, LRE, plain old Strep. gangrene or a combination of these or other maladies may have caused the necrosis. However, right at this moment, treatment is more important than in-field (or at-home) identification of the exact cause.

How long are you contagious with mrsa before you show signs?

MRSA (methylcillian resistant staph aureus) is a staph infection that is resistant to most antibiotics. There are many kinds of staph germs. If you have MRSA your infection will not "look" any different than someone with non-MRSA staph. A person can "carry" the MRSA germ without ever actually having the infection. If they have an open wound, the germ can infect it (via touch/contact) and cause the wound to have a hard time healing until super strong antibiotics are used. Once someone has MRSA, they are considered "positive" always. Summary: You can be "contagious" and NEVER show symptoms.

If someone is cured of MRSA after 5 months in the hospital can it come back and is he still infectious?

Yes it can com back. MRSA will stay with you for your whole life and surface at different times. When MRSA is treated it is usually because it has infected a wound. Once the infection has been treated and the pt is released their med history will contain somethingalong the lines of "history of MRSA" signifying that the MRSA may resurface and warning health care providers to take precautions.

Your hairdresser told you she had MRSA while she was cutting your hair her wound was healed but she was still swollen and on her second round of antibiotics. Is she a danger to her clients?

What are the treatments for MRSA?

There are two main treatments of MRSA. The first is drainage of the wound, and thorough debridement of the area. The second part of the treatment is antibiotics, though these must be carefully chosen by the physician as MRSA tends to be resistant to some of the most common antibiotics. The patient MUST take the antibiotic according to instructions in order for the treatment to be effective.

Can you contract MRSA from a spider bite?

Yes you sure can. You can even get it simply by touching the skin of someone who is infected with it. However, it is generally not a threat to anyone who is healthy. It is only people with a compromised immune system who are normally at risk. If you get bitten, treat the bite with hydrogen peroxide and keep it clean and bandaged. Almost 30% of people carry MRSA around in their noses and don't even no it. If you are immune compromised, you should see your doctor as he may want you on antibiotics.
