What type of low head pressure are we talking about? List the pressures and refrigerant type along with the indoor and outdoor conditions at the time the pressures were observed and we can be of more help. I've done a few new installs lately. residential splits, r22 and normal conditions say 80 degrees and not humid. when charging the units i was getting a good suction pressure, around 68-70psi, the suction line was coming back nice a cold and the liquid line was warm. but for some reason i was getting a super low head pressure, around 150-175psi. any ideas cause im at a loss. i did everything right and the systems were even running great. any help would be appreciated. if the indoor space was warm that wouldn't drop my head pressure right, i thought it would be high
The perfect answer requires understanding of the density of the water at different temperatures and pressures at all levels of depth. NOTE: The distinction between PSIG and PSIA is that PSIG is pressure as compared to local (atmospheric) pressure which becomes negative for a vaccum (pressure less than the local pressure). O PSIA is a perfect vacuum and normal atmospheric pressure is ~14.7 PSIA (0 PSIG when referenced to atmospheric local pressure) Without getting too "deep" into the perfect answer, using an approximation thumbrule of 1/2 psi increase per 1 foot of water depth, the answer is approximately 328 PSIG or ~ 343 PSIA.

Very simply put, cold air is denser than warm air - thus as air of differing temperature passes over you (or rather your barometer) the barometric pressure will change. The arrival of warm air will cause the barometric pressure to fall and as warm air holds more moisture than cold air a falling barometric pressure will herald the arrival of rain. Conversely, if the pressure rises this will indicate some nice sunny days to come Further, if the pressure falls (or rises) fast, then there are likely to be strong winds.
