It will cause difficulty breathing. Pt may be unable to lie flat or the shortness of breath will worsen with activity. As the fluid increases the difficulty breathing can become an emergent situation.

THis would affect their alveoli. You see, alveoli are built to hold air, not liquid. If they are filled with fluid, they can't exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. The person wouldn't be able to revieve oxygen or release carbon dioxide, which, as you know, is REALLY bad.
