From an Islamic perspective, there is a difference between adultery and having more than one wife. Adultery is having an illicit relationship with a person married to someone else whereas having more than one wife is polygamy. Polygamy is not against the laws of God. In The Bible there are many instances of polygamy. Prophet Abraham (may peace be upon him) had two wives. The Koran says that a man can marry up to four women but if he feels that he cannot deal justly with them all (which you mostly can't), it commands you to marry only one.
