The flag is red white and blue. Originally is was orange white and blue. The royal family's name is Orange so that's why. Later in time about 1800 was decided to change orange in red because it would look more bold on the ships. At some holidays (queensday) we still use an orange banner on top of the flag.
I think blue and orange were still dominat colors for them.
