Get a stereo connector for this purpose at Radio Shack (under $5.00). Or you can burn CDs on your computer, and play them.
You have to download the program "iTunes" to your computer. Once it is fully installed you must connect your iPod to your computer with the USB cord that is included with the iPod. Then you can burn music from CDs into iTunes, transfer songs on your computer into iTunes, and buy music from the iTunes store (this requires internet).
you use i tunes for this. you stick your CD in the computer and drag the sons onto a playlist and synchronize it.
You can add music to the iTunes software from any CDs that you may have, mp3 music files on your computer, or you can buy music from the iTunes store or any other retailer that provides a download service such as Amazon.
