If you have rack and pinion steering, the steering gear will need replaced.
There could be many causes to a car leaking power steering fluid. There could be a hole in the reservoir, or the seals could be worn or broken.
The fluid could be leaking from the pump, hoses, or steering rack. Wash the steering system, then you can see where the leak is coming from.
Check to see where leak originates could be: Leaking pump seal Leaking high or low pressure hose Could be steering rack
Chances are, if it's a passenger car or minivan, you have "rack and pinion steering". And if that's the case it means your rack is leaking badly. Get it replaced or it could become dangerous to your braking, and you could lose all steering.
most likely your alero's power steering pump would be leaking from the power steering reservoir, but as an alero owner i have had to replace the whole pump because the pump shaft snapped on me
it sounds like your power steering fluid is low,,,,, or your power steering pump is leaking (which means it needs to be replaced)... I hope it turns out to be low steering fluid. If the power steering fluid is low, you can have someone add fluid, but keep and eye on whether or not that fluid level is dropping or leaking. Good luck to you.
The power steering fluid is leaking because somewhere in the power steering system there is a leak. It is possible one of the seals on the steering rack has worn out. That would be a good place to start. It could also be coming from a leaky seal on the power steering pump or from one of the lines.
Could be steering rack Could be transmission seal Could be power steering pump Turns out it was the water pump leaking the newer pink antifreeze that had separated from the water, but gotta tell ya I had not thought of the tranny seal. Thanks a bunch.
Your leak could come from any part in the system ,if your serp belt is oil soaked ,the most common cause is the output shaft seal behind the pulley on the pump. Another common leak located underneath the vehicle could be the return line which runs from the pump to the front frame rail the to the rack (very common for leaking) Also either pressure line or rack could be leaking .
A seal in the end of the steering rack could be leaking. The fluid will collect in the rubber boots that are on the ends. I lost fluid continuallly for a year till it started to show. Hope this helps. "G"
please be more specific is it leaking engine oil, coolant, transmission oil, brake fluid, or power steering fluid where is it leaking from ?
it could be your power steering pump. check your fluid level, then also check to see your not leaking any fluid.
