----------------------- Whether you have the right to question the creator of the universe depends on: (1) whether there is, in fact, a creator of the universe; if so, (2) how just and fair the creator is; and then (3) what rights the creator has granted humans. On these points: It has not yet been proven that there is a creator, nor which god this creator really is. If there is a creator and he is the Christian God, then we are assured that he is just and fair. Because he is just and fair, he would have given you the right to question him.
Asking for them would be appropriate.

A deity that supposedly set the universe in motion and then conceptually walked away from it is described by the term Deism. Such a deity represents the attitude of Charles Robert Darwin, and he relied heavily upon other Deists for the concepts in Origin Of Species. Really, such a deity would be an idol rather than a purposeful transcendent entity.

There are many different types of theology, so no single answer will satisfy everybody, however in general it seems that the defining characteristic of God is that He is (or is believed to be) the Creator of the universe. Anyone who has created the universe would be able to claim the title of God.
There are various religious tradition that would tell you that God is in heaven, or that He is everywhere, or that He is nowhere. He may be named Yahweh, Jehovah, or Allah. He may be the omnipotent creator of the universe, or just an imaginary being.
The Universe is The Only Impersonal God of which we are a part. Is it conscious? Uncertain; we just don't have enough evidence nor enough facts to prove or disprove if The Universe is conscious or not; perhaps only the life forms are the only part of The Universe to be conscious, but the rest of The Universe may not be conscious; we just don't know yet. ------------------------------------------------------- Does consciousness matter? What if it is something greater than consciousness? Just because we have consciousness doesn't mean that it is a quality that should be a part of our creator or out universe. Plus for all we know having consciousness could be dependent on having a brain. When no brain is involved speaking of consciousness would be like assuming that god or the universe would have a desire for food. All we know is what life is like, so when we are talking about something outside of life, it would all be outside of our understanding. It would most likely include things that we can't even conceive with our very limited brains.
