The black holes may not devour everything since the outward velocity of the matter in the universe may escapethe gravitational pull of the black holes. Stephen Hawkins reckons that even the mass in the black holes would diminish over time, though over trillions and trillions of years.

Are black holes never ending?

They will eventually evaporate, if that's what you mean. But it takes a long, long time for a typical black hole to evaporate - much longer than the current age of the Universe.

How did black holes in outer space get their name?

Since nothing, not even light, can escape black holes, they are invisible (so to speak). You can only see a black hole when it is sucking up light, since the object with light looks like something is pulling it away.Actually, there isn't much imagination in this. Black holes are named as such because they are, basically, holes in the universe which emit no light.

Did you make black holes yet?

Black holes (in the astronomical sense) have never been made in the laboratory.

When will black holes die off?

never

How black holes make tornadoes on earth?

They don't. They never have. They never will.

What tools do we use to see black holes?

Black holes can't be observed directly. The Hawking Radiation is so weak, that it will perhaps never be observed.Black holes are detected indirectly, basically by their gravitational effects. This includes: * Gravitational lensing of objects behind the black hole * Observing objects that orbit the black hole * The accretion disk of a black hole can become extremely hot, making some black holes the brightest objects in the Universe! All of these are effects that happen OUTSIDE the black hole proper.

How powerful are black holes?

Black holes are so powerful, that if you were in one, it would stretch you apart and you would NEVER come out!!!

Since black holes expand when they take in matter won't they just keep getting bigger and then take over the whole universe some day?

Well, once black holes do "swallow" everything in a certain area, some current theories suggust they will stop and die out. However, many things about black holes are still not known, so scientists can never be sure.

Are black holes harmful to earth?

The Earth has never been endangered or harmed by a black hole, and chances are, never will be.

Who proved the existence of white holes?

White holes were derived from the theory of relativity by Albert Einstein though never proven. Einstein's theory was expanded by the Schwarzschild metric. Theorists today are attempting to theorize that there is a big bang everyday in black holes where light and matter is released and might answer on how our universe was formed.

Why do astronomers locate black holes?

Astronomers are constantly investigating and collecting information on any objects in space that have not yet been cataloged. In the course of doing this, they find and identify galaxies, nebulae, novas and, of course, black holes. They just "turn up" frequently as part of the never-ending search of the universe and the objects in it.

How are black holes beneficial to the universe?

Well, look at it this way...If there wasn't any black holes (or if black holes didn't have a massive gravitational pull), life as we know it probably wouldn't exist.Black holes keep the galaxy togetherBlack holes "recycle" dead starsAnd some people think that black holes are what created the universe in the first place!!
