Yes.
Faulty plug lead, and/or distributor cap,if applicable
A faulty ECM!!!
the faulty part is actually located in the distributor so you need to replace the whole distributor
probably the cap carbon track on the side will show crack could also be the wire is loose
The engine will not run with a failed distributor.
Faulty ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor could be to blame.
The distributor may be faulty or have a crack, there may be a disconnection or a dirty connection from the distributor to the spark plug (s). The connections on the distributor may be corroded. Some where there is a break in the power train in the non-firing cylinders.
On a high energy ignition, possible problems include: Faulty keyswitch, faulty wiring or connectors, faulty pickup inside the distributor, faulty electrical condenser, if it has points (depends on the type of HEI) the points could be bad, faulty coil or faulty HEI control module. You will need to identify which component has failed.
A Ford 1999 Expedition engine is probably not seized if it will start and idle but will then not stay running. This could be due to a clogged fuel system, faulty injectors, faulty spark plugs or a wiring problem, or even a faulty distributor.
The camshaft position sensor is an integral part of the distributor. If codes and tests indicate that it is faulty, the distributor must be replaced. Last I looked a cheap one was $1,500.
Areas that should be considered for diagnosis of your problem include: (electrical system) faulty spark plug(s) - faulty ignition wire(s) - distributor rotor needs replacing - the distributor itself needs replacing. (fuel system) faulty or clogged fuel injectors - replace fuel filter. ALSO: a vehicle of this age - if you haven't had the timing belt replaced yet, you should!
