If the oil can light blinks and beeps on a 1996 VW Jetta Trek when you run the car for awhile but you just got an oil change and its not overheating is this a sensor problem?

9 times out of 10, it's the new oil filter. vw uses a special bosch filter. after market filters can have too much flow resistance, even when new.
AnswerI had the same problem. VW changed the oil filter, it was not after market. They put a new oil pump in the car and it was still doing the same thing. $800.00 and 4 months later, they found that it was the sensor on the top of the oil pump, nothing wrong the the pump itself, just the sencor.Another possible answer. Oil is of wrong type. I would get the beeping when engine was turning about 2,000 rpm. Would stop if above that. I went to a quick change oil place to get thicker oil but they didn't stock that, said most Midwest shops don't carry it. So... went to auto parts store and got 20W50, new filter and oil filter. Did the oil change myself last night. Seems to have taken care of the problem.

Have the water pump checked. My 99 had an overheating problem; guage would go up and sometimes engine would stall. It turned out to be the water pump.
