If you have the 1.6 Liter SOHC engine the answer is YES. This is an Interference engine, and if the belt breaks engine damage will occur. Belt should be replaced every 30,000 miles. I know that sounds absurd, but that is the factory recommendation. If you have the 1.8 Liter DOHC engine, no damage will occur. It is NOT an interference engine. Replace the belt every 60,000 miles.

Did it run before?

To set the timing on a 1992 Geo Storm DOHC 1.6L engine, first ensure the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke for cylinder one. Then, align the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys according to the specifications in the service manual. Use a timing light connected to the number one cylinder to check the timing against the recommended specifications, and if necessary, adjust by loosening the distributor and rotating it until the timing is correct. Finally, retighten the distributor and recheck the timing to ensure it remains in the correct position.
The timing marks for a 1991 Geo Storm GSI DOHC are typically located on the crankshaft pulley and the timing belt cover. The marks should align when the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. It is important to consult the vehicle's service manual for specific instructions on locating and aligning the timing marks correctly.
750 trees were damaged.
the alternator and belt are located at the bottom of the engine on the passenger side looking at the timing belt side
The 1991 geo storm is not classified as a non-interference motor. Instead, it features an interference engine design, meaning that if the timing belt fails, the pistons can collide with the valves, potentially causing significant engine damage. It's important for owners to maintain the timing belt and replace it according to the manufacturer’s recommended schedule to avoid such issues.
If it was struck, it could certainly be damaged.
Answer: The ignition timing on a 1990 Geo Storm is 10 degrees BTDC. This applies to both the SOHC and DOHC 1.6L engines.
Had been damaged.
had been damaged is the verb phrase.
the clutch is really easy to install and the timing belt is not a problem if its shot The 1993 Geo Storm is not an interference motor, because my belt just broke,(Nov 2005) and I got the same question answered on the following website: "www.nutzandboltz.org". My daughter's 1990 Geo Storm timing belt broke while she was driving it. She tried to start the engine but it would not run. We were told that it was an interference motor and that the motor was now shot. Being a little skeptical of the "experts" I put a new timing belt on and the engine started and has run fine for several months (clutch just went out). So much for the experts, by the way how ard is it to change the clutch? Thanks M in Omaha
