Without question. YES!!!
Follow the + battery cable its the small part of the starter where the wires hook up
nothing, the starter will not engage, and the voltage bypass to the coil will not be energized.
Main cable is large goes on large pole on starter, small cable is start wire, goes on small pole on starter...
I'd check two things: I don't remember what year Ford changed over, but if yours still has the starter solenoid on the fender, make sure you haven't crossed the small wires. If the solenoid is on the starter, are you certain that you've wired the starter right? There are a couple small wires that connect to the starter,if you connect them wrong it could the cause problems you describe. If you're CERTAIN that the starter and/or solenoid are connected properly, start looking seriously at the ignition switch.
no installig a starter wrong will not cause engine knocking. all that will do is maybe short fuses, heat up wires, ruin your starter, or melt wires. knocking isn't electrical it is mechanical like lifters, pistons, valves, things like that
Yes, check the connection to the starter and the spark plug wires first and replace if needed.
First thing before you begin is to remove the Negative cable on the battery, this will keep you from shorting out on the starter wires. Try to look at the solenoid on the starter and mark the wires with tape so you know which wire goes on which terminal. I usually take off the big wire first at the starter then take off the small wires.
Yes, the solenoid on a Kawasaki 300 Bayou should have power on the small wires when the ignition is turned on and the starter button is pressed. These small wires are typically responsible for activating the solenoid, allowing current to flow from the battery to the starter motor. If there is no power present at these wires during this process, it could indicate an issue with the ignition switch, starter button, or wiring. Always consult the service manual for specific troubleshooting steps tailored to your model.
check your starter wires there should be wires going to 2 different places on the starter, 1 large gage wire to the copper terminal and 1 smaller to activate the solenoid
The large one from the positive side of the battery attaches to the large post mounted on the starter solenoid and a smaller purple wire that attaches to the small post on the starter solenoid marked "S". The small post on the starter solenoid marked "R" is not used with that vehicle. Any accessory power wires would also attach to the large post on the starter solenoid.
Any wires big enough to fit on the big "B" post of the starter go there. Smaller wires go to the small "S" terminal of the starter. The small "R" terminal is not used; it is vestigial. Exceptions: Any wires that would fit on "B" terminal but won't reach are ground wires. These go to one of the mounting bolts. Next time, for Zod's sake, pay attention when you're taking something apart, Nimnode.
2 bolts hold it in and you have the hot wire from the battery to take off the starter and 2 small wires and just pull it out.
