By asking "if there was a god" you are assuming that there is no God.So, its answer also will be assumption based. Religion is nothing but a binding force of the society with social and spiritual values. The only purpose of religion is the better governance of our society.If that governance bring peace in our life in the name of religion then god would allow religion.
