Most food that should be refrigerated like chicken is no good left over night. So the answer is, "No." Do not eat it or serve it again. It should be thrown away.

More informationPotentially hazardous food should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours, at which point it should be refrigerated. The less time at room temperature, the better. If you know that the product temperature was in the 140°F to 70°F range for 2 hours or less, then the meat should be OK. If you have no idea how long the food was in that range, then you are putting everyone who eats it at risk for food poisoning.

Most pathogenic bacteria thrive at the same temperatures we like. Some of them form toxins that are not destroyed by heating.

People constantly ask for some type of verification that the food they eat will not make them ill. That is nearly impossible to do without bacteriological and chemical tests, so all we can do is provide guidelines, like:

  • Handle food in a sanitary manner (wash hands, clean & sanitize food-contact surfaces, protect from cross-contamination, package & store properly)
  • Keep potentially hazardous food either hot or cold and cook and reheat thoroughly, and
  • Use it within a reasonable time.

In the end, you are responsible for what you feed yourself and your family. This adage has truth to it: When in doubt, throw it out.

Probably not. Two hours is the maximum time that potentially hazardous food should be allowed to be at room temperature. Overnight exceeds that by quite a bit. Do not eat it. You could become very sick.

Which begs the question, "Is it safe to eat CAFO chicken at all;" but "No," if the kitchen was at 'ambient' temperature, our sources say; although cooked chicken @ 600 is probably fine for 12 hours or more. The 'sniff test' is probably your best guide, as bad chicken will smell like bad chicken--but it may largely come down to how healthy ones immune system is.

Refrigerate foods quickly because harmful bacteria grow rapidly at room temperature. Refrigerate leftovers and takeout foods within two hours.

No. Unless where you are leaving it out is as cold as a refrigerator. It should not be left out - even to thaw.

Can you reuse sauce in which you cooked a chicken?

Of coarse you can reuse the sauce you cooked a chicken in. Any of the bacteria that was on the chicken was "destroyed" to say. The sauce will only have a faint taste of the chicken in it, but the flavor of the sauce will still overpower that of the chickens.

Are chicken thighs still pink when fully cooked?

No. Chicken meat turns white when properly cooked; the outside will also be slightly browned. If part of the meat is still pink, do not eat it. Return it to the pan/grill/cooking surface and let it finish.

What is a take out tax?

If you buy food in the grocery to be cooked at home there is no tax on it(this includes frozen cooked food also because you still have to cook it at home). If you were to buy an already cooked roasted chicken still warm from roasting you get taxed on it like you would on restaurant food.So take out would mean already cooked and ready to eat.

If they have been fully cooked all the way through, and do not contain moist fruit, then maybe they could be left out and still be safe - like baked bread - but it is probably better to refrigerate them.

How long can raw chicken be in the fridge until it can be cooked?

Ideally, less than 24 hours after thawing the chicken should be cooked. However, up to three days is probably still safe. After three days however, if there were any bacteria on the chicken they have probably multiplied to the point that either food safety or food taste is affected and the chicken should be discarded.
