Probably because you know it's wrong and don't pretend that it's okay to be racist. This happens to some racist; though they feel they can't change their feelings towards a particular race because they truly think in their minds, the negativity towards the particular race holds fact, they still feel remorseful for singling them out and being bitter about things when they don't want to feel that way.
