Although exercising is an excellent way of avoiding some of the risk factors for Diabetes, the constant spikes in blood sugar that result from eating most types of sugar can eventually cause the pancreas to stop producing insulin. Also, genetics plays a part in the likelihood of developing some types of diabetes.

How do diet and exercise help reverse diabetes?

A good diet and daily exercise can help reverse diabetes by allowing your blood sugar to stay at a more even rate through the day. When you eat a lot of carbohydrates, it turns to starches and sugars. This will spike your blood sugar and insulin will be needed to regulate it. Lower the intake of carbs and you lower the need for insulin.

Is exercise related to diabetes?

Glucose is VERY related to diabetes! In fact, the very definition of diabetes is the inability to regulate your body's glucose level. Glucose is the energy that your body uses to survive. Your brain, muscles, organs, and everything in your body needs it. You store it so your body can use it when you haven't eaten for a while, and when you run out of stores of it, you convert fats and other things into it! When you eat, you have a massive increase in glucose in your blood (aka high blood sugar). This is when your body gives off a substance called insulin. Insulin signals to your body to grab the glucose while it can, and your cells take it up. When you are diabetic, you do not release insulin like you should. So, your blood sugar will be really high, but your cells will not know to take it up. This is BAD! So, diabetics take insulin injections so their body knows to take up the glucose in their blood stream after they eat.

Can you get diabetes by eating a lot of candy?

AnswerIf you eat a lot of sugar, you may become obese, which can lead to type 2 Diabetes. Type one occurs when the immune system "attacks" the Insulin-producing beta cells located in the pancreas. Which means your body can no longer produce insulin for itself, in that case, you would need to take insulin injections for the rest of your life. It is unrelated to eating.AnswerYou can eat your way into diabetes by eating these types of food to the extent that you are overweight, have high cholesteral, triglycerides and such. There are also other risk factors, but excess weight and lack of exercise increase your risk. AnswerNo. One cannot obtain diabetes by consuming too much sugar. By consuming a lot of sugar, one may become obese. Obesity is a risk factor for diabetes.AnswerWe do not completely understand why some people get diabetes and others don't. Genetics plays a role (family history) as does being over weight and getting too little exercise. It is possible that what you eat is also important with eating a lot of breads, pastas and sweets being more likely to cause diabetes than over-eating meats and fats. AnswerOnly Type 2 diabetes can be caused by the food you eat. Type 2 can be caused by poor diet, poor health and lack of exercise. Type 1 however cannot be caused by diet. The causes of Type 1 are being researched but it definitely doesn't have anything to do with diet. Diet affects the overall well being of the sufferer but it isn't a cause.
