Nowadays it is easy to stay in touch though with all the modern technology and social network sites; it shouldn't be too hard for the two of you to keep in touch or to see what the other one is doing from time to time. You could set up an email account from the same provider where you will be able to arrange a time where the two of you can instant chat. Don't look at it as if they are gone, there are ways and means to get around a little thing like distance.
