If you hit a park car and are unable to find the owner what should you do?

You look around for witnesses and cameras and when the coast is clear you run for it. That is not the proper answer however. Always look at the situation as if this were your damaged car. It hurts. Would you like to come out and see your car damaged? The question asks whether the owner is not to be found... Ask a potential witnesses (if possible), whether they have seen the owner leaving the vehicle and where they may have gone and what they look like so you can track them down and present yourself. That's a noble approach. Don't hesitate to take a quick photo of the damage, if your telephone has the capability. The person may have also improperly parked. If this is not possible then you have no option except to leave a note with your phone number and first name with a short explanation. If you get a response then you can discuss this on the phone and perhaps meet in a lighted and well traveled area. You don't know this person... so be alert, perhaps bring someone along as support. If the accident is moderate in your opinion, you should call the police and mention it to them on the phone. They may want you to stay until an officer will be there or if it is impossible because they are too busy or you may not have time either then let it go. Then there is the fact that you contacted the police and perhaps got a number or name that you did this and you have done your duty. In no one returns your call... then let it go.
