if you want to play it again yes you will have to put it in
The game doesn't download completely to the PS3, just the information that it needs to play the game. The updates to games that you receive when you have an online connection do not have to run each time you insert the Game Discs so some information must also be stored in your Harddrive after a game has been loaded once.

Each time you want to play a PS3 game that is on Disc your have to reload the disc into your PS3. When an update for a game is released that information is stored in the Harddrive. If you update a game in your harddrive and take it to a friend's to play the update stays with your harddrive and you need to update it again at your friend's house. If you put the game in an Xbox 360 it will not change the game disc, unless you scratch it. There is no point in putting any PS3 game disc in a Xbox 340 they will not play ever

You need the disc every time you want to play the game in the PS3. The game disc does not transfer to your harddrive and merely builds a file to store information that can not be put on the disc the can not be rewritten by the PS3. The Games upgrades are also stored in the harddrive file
