You say to your partner, "I think I may have herpes, but I'm not sure. It could just be a skin condition. I'm not sure, just paranoid. I'm going to go and get myself tested and I'd really appreciate it if you came with me. Just to hold my hand. Though, thinking about it, it might be wise for you to get tested at the same time. That way if I do have herpes you don't have to wait again to find out if I've given it to you, and if I don't, and you don't, we can have real fun celebrating together."
If he won't even hold your hand - he's not worth it. If he won't get tested also - he's not worth it. If possible go for a full sexual health screening. You can always tell him that if you are both clear you'll go on the pill and he won't have to use condoms...
