you can drive while on any dose of methadone, as long as it is a stable dose. and do not have the "nod". i was on 20mls and just recently up'd to 30mls. at least 24 hours I would say at least 24 hours. The longer you can wait, the more (and better) you will feel. I just switched over from Suboxone to Methadone 2 months ago & didnt really "feel" the methadone for about 3 days. I waited roughly 24 hours between doses because of all the "horror stories" I have heard, and I didnt get sick at all. Methadone and Suboxone are a strange thing when it comes to what to take first and vice versa. I was on 110milligrams of methadone and had to stop altogether without weaning because a broken down car. Nine days later I took 16mgs. of Suboxone at a new clinic and was deathly sick for two days. This is because methadone is a full opiate while Suboxone is a partial opiate. From experience, I was given 30 mg's when I first went to the clinic and really felt it. Most people say 20 mg's is a good starting dose. Before this, I had a 80 mg a day OxyContin habit. Be very careful when starting Methadone as it is VERY dangerous at first. If you take 20 mg and do not feel it, do not take more that day, wait until the next day before increasing your dosage, as Methadone has a very long half-life and is still in your system even if you don't feel it. Many OD's occur from this.
