A floppy drive does not in itself affect computer speed. Some poorly designed operating systems may temporarily stop responding when a floppy disk is being written to, but these systems are rare nowadays.
Set the write protect tab (or tape over the write protect notch).
You can only read the data.. Can't change it..

Write-Protect Tab (you call it a "notch") is a little plastic rectangle in the upper right corner of most floppy disks. When the hole is open, the disk is locked and you can't add any more files to the floppy. If the write-Protect Tab is missing, simply cover the hole with a bit of sticky tape and you can add more files to the floppy..
There is a small slide-switch on the floppy to write or protect
Yes. The write protection notch is the same for USB, floppy, and other portable media. What is is supposed to do is prevent changing of the data, not reading of the data, on the disk.
To write-protect (stop deletion, overwriting, or adding to) a 3 1/4" floppy disk, slide the tiny plastic tab at the back of the disk (opposite the shutter), so that it is open. To protect a disk from damage, keep it in a dry, temperature-controlled environment free of dust and smoke. Avoid any contact with strong magnetic field (sudh as on top of stereo speakers).
It is a good idea to write protect on a floppy disk because it is a back to make sure the disk doesn't get overwritten. A disk can also be write protected by pushing a small tab on top of the disk to reveal a hole.
I dont know about USB's but for floppys, yes direct heat and cold can damage a floppy as its not cased very well, they are typically meant to be disposable. Consider this, a single grass blade in a floppy disk can cause it to not read. and direct heat can melt or severly damage the floppy
OKAY!i think the answer is yes it does because as the heat generates it makes the disk hot and it tends to make mistakes in the floppy disk.I just think this is the correct answer but I am not sure, though.
